About Us

The belief that perfection exists. The patience to prove it.

The Mile-Hi Fertilizer Company was formed in March of 2018. However, to understand why its products have long enjoyed a place of prominence in the sheds and greenhouses of rosarians and serious gardeners alike, you have to dig a little deeper – all the way back to 1979 and meet Royal Franklin.

Royal was not just an avid lover of roses. He was an innovator who dedicated himself to formulating the perfect rose food using only all-natural, organic additives. Season after season Royal experimented in his garage and gardens in Littleton, Colorado, researching and testing until he came upon the perfect combination of ingredients.

Royal began selling his fertilizer and his proprietary mix and measures of organic ingredients to friends and neighbors right out of his garage. Word-of-mouth recommendations made their way to the top garden supply stores along the Front Range. From a single person operation and 200 pounds of annual sales to over 40,000 pounds sold annually in retail outlets from Fort Collins to Pueblo. Without any advertising, Royal’s growth was the result of viral word-of-mouth as rosarians using his product enjoyed healthier, fuller and brighter roses – and spread the word.

Rosarians and gardeners swear by Mile-Hi’s performance using it year after year. Rose societies across Colorado endorse Royal’s products and members rely on them to grow their prize-winning roses. With Royal’s passing in January of 2018, his widow and son sought a buyer for the business who would continue Royal’s outstanding formulation and lasting legacy. Meet today’s Mile-Hi Fertilizer Company.

Reap the benefits of our all-natural fertilizers.

Bacteria and fungi decompose the Mile-Hi fertilizer, making nutrients available to plants slowly, over time. Mile-Hi’s fertilizers are designed to reduce soil crusting, improve water movement within the soil, and add structure—resulting in improved root systems. Hundreds of rosarians and gardeners swear by Mile-Hi’s performance, using it on their roses, flowers and vegetable gardens year after year.

  • The late Dr. Warren Kirkley used to say that you can tell the health of the soil in your rose bed by turning over a shovel of soil and counting the number of worms you’ve unearthed. Worms love Mile-Hi.

  • Their flower and vegetable feed and kelp meal make great soil amendments. To help new plants get established, I use the kelp meal mixed in planting backfill for its superior water holding ability. Then it breaks down to improve the soil and the plant roots.

  • Rosarians on the front range of the Rockies are fortunate indeed to have a dry fertilizer formulated expressly for native soils. The bottom line for the Macon Garden fertilizing regimen is Mile-Hi Rose Feed, which we have been using for as long as it has been available, with excellent results.

  • I've recorded first hand, the improved growing, flowering, and survivability of my and other's roses when using Mile-Hi Rose Feed. The ingredients are supported by research as being highly beneficial to shrub type plants. The formulator of MHRF was an avid, active grower of roses and researched his recipe continuously in order to choose the most efficacious ingredients.

  • Along with Flower and Vegetable Feed, Mile-Hi Rose Feed adds important nutrients to our alkaline soil for the cultivation of strong, healthy roses. I’d also add a half cup to all your Clematis too. They seem to love it too.

  • The use of organic Mile-Hi Rose Feed gives me bigger and more colorful rose blooms on healthier plants. What else is there to say? It works well on anything I grow. It’s a great fertilizer that you only have to apply three times a year. It builds soil structure, and promotes strong plants from the roots up.
